On March 11th, 2024, the Council of Ministers for Employment and Social Affairs confirmed a provisional agreement with the European Parliament regarding the Plarform Work Directiv, reached on 8 February 2024 between the Council’s presidency and the European Parliament’s negotiators on the platform work directive. This EU legal act aims to improve working conditions and regulate the use of algorithms by digital labour platforms.
From 2021 the European Commission is working on the content of the directive to regulate the status of persons working on platforms and other important issues related to work on platforms, and on March 9th 2021 it produced the draft directive on “Improving working conditions in platform work”. However, some EU Member States (France, Germany, Greece) opposed certain provisions of this directive.
